Jackson A. Parker, President and CEO announced that Reed & Reed has begun work on the 132mw Kibby Wind Power project in the western mountains of Maine. The company was selected by Trans-Canada as the Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) Contractor for the $320 million project.
Work includes construction of roads, electrical collector systems, turbine pads, turbine foundations and installation of 44 Vestas V-90 3mw wind turbines which will be manufactured in Denmark. The wind turbines will be installed across two ridge lines in Kibby and Skinner Townships in northwest Franklin County. When the project is completed in the fall of 2010 it will produce enough electricity to supply 50,000 about homes.
Founded in 1928, Woolwich, Maine based Reed & Reed has built a number of high-profile bridge, heavy and marine construction projects across New England. Recently the company established itself as the leading wind power contractor in New England with several major wind power projects either completed or under construction. The company plans to utilize its new 440-ton crane to install the wind turbines which stand over 400 feet tall.
